Open Houses offered inside look at W.S. TYLER CANADA
"Screening Technology by Screening Specialists" is W.S. Tyler's Motto. How to combine the engineering, designing, application and manufacturing of screening equipment and media was the focus of our 2002 Open House in St. Catharines, ON. Although called an Open House, this full-day session was more a screening seminar for everybody who was involved in it - guests and hosts.

100 guests accepted the invitation and attended the Open House, which - due to high requests - was held twice, on February 7 and 21 of 2002. Each day was divided into two parts: A theoretical and a practical part, both of which would be attended at different times during the day by each of 4 groups, whereas each group had their own guide that led them through the day. The "screening" tour guides were Dieter Frontschak, Mario Petrucci, Bob Watson, Steve Fair and Mike Asta.

In the theoretical part Volker Cornelsen and Michael Stichling informed the guests about wire characteristics, new products of the Screening Media Division and the application of these products. Later on, Peter Couturier presented the TYCAN product line outlining the new T-Class M, which was officially introduced at the CONAGG Show in Las Vegas at the end of March. When talking about screening basics, formulas are often pretty boring and not interesting for a quarry operator. In his presentation, Dr Rudiger Heinrich found a way to fascinate the guests giving life to these formulas.

The practical part on our shop floor was divided into various work-stations where the visitors could see W.S. Tyler's products running and being produced. In the Tyler Laboratory, Kent Taylor and Terry Reckart presented Tyler's famous Lab & Sieve Equipment and also introduced the latest generation of particle analysis, the CPA unit - a device that is measuring shape and dimensions of each particle using photooptical means.

Fred Goodhew and Dean Stewart explained all the possibilities of TYCAN's maintenance services. This part of the day was highlighted by Dieter Takev's vibration analysis at a operating eccentric vibrating screen. The vibration analysis is a new product for W.S. Tyler Canada, performing a technical check-up of the vibrating screen to determine parameters that allow conclusions about the status of various parts like springs and bearings. Permanent tests can prevent these parts from failing.

Finally, each group had the chance to see the various manufacturing processes during a 45 minute plant tour. Highlights of the tour were the plasma-burning-table, automatic weaving looms including the brandnew TRINCA, and the Cobra Vibe Table - developed and built by our German parent company HAVER & BOECKER. The Cobra Vibe Table is used to produce our new range of self-cleaning screens: Independently vibrating warp wires enhance the vibration of these screens panels allowing wet and damp material to be screened easily.

For lunch an Oktoberfest-style lunch was served including "Weisswurst and Schnitzel". During the break our union president Ed Kobylka underlined the importance that our customers have for us. All employees of W.S. Tyler Canada took part in the lunch and the visitors had the chance to personally talk to the actual producers of their products.

A full day of screening technology - from 8.30 a.m. to 3.30 pm - was wrapped up by our president Randy Bakeberg with a final "Thank you" to everybody who came to see us this day, and to everybody at W.S. Tyler who made these two Open Houses a big success. The positive feedback that we have received was more than overwhelming for the W.S. Tyler Team: We already know, that we will definitely do this again.
